Frequently asked questions
Will my QR code expire?
Static codes never expire: the data is inside the image and no server is involved. Dynamic codes are never switched off for a trial, plan, scan count, inactivity or payment. We only disable one for abuse.
What is the difference between static and dynamic codes?
A static code contains your content directly. A dynamic code points to a short link on our redirect service, so you can edit the destination later and see scan counts. Dynamic codes only exist for URLs. If you don't need to edit or track, use static.
Are dynamic codes available yet?
Dynamic URL codes are built but not switched on yet. Until they are, every code you make here is static.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no signup and no card. Dynamic codes give you a secret manage link instead. Keep it safe: without it we cannot recover the code for you.
Do you see what I put into my QR code?
Not for static codes. They are generated in your browser and the content never leaves it. Dynamic codes store the destination URL so we can redirect to it.
Is it really free? How do you pay for it?
Yes. There are no ads and no paid tier. The service runs on free hosting tiers and is supported by voluntary donations.
What size should I print my code?
As a rule of thumb the code's width should be about one tenth of the scanning distance, and never under 2 cm. The generator shows a hint for your distance.
Why does the generator warn about my colours?
Scanners need contrast. Below 4.5:1 you get a warning and below 3:1 the download is blocked. Light-on-dark (inverted) codes fail on some scanners, so we warn about those too.
How do I report an abusive code?
Use the report page, or the report link on any preview page. Verified phishing, malware and illegal content is disabled quickly.
